Hello How Are You?

July 2022

I imagined that I was writing a letter to my friend F who was an active social activist before the passage of National Security Ordinance but decided to migrate to Britain once the BNO Visa Scheme was launched by the British government. My feelings, like many of those middle class people who still remain in Hong Kong, is mixed and struggling. While the roots, be it family, career, and affection and sense of belonging are all here in Hong Kong, Hong Kong is increasingly not a place that can fulfill people's aspirations and expectations. The key question is therefore "to leave or not to leave". With increasing number of people leaving Hong Kong, the society is dying with emptiness, which is something heartbreaking to me.
